If you know where you will be staying in Houston, I suggest you mail some clothing and stuff to yourself at that address. Easier than carrying everything with you. Then you can mail home the stuff you don't need for the return trip.
Make plans for an emergency. Any bike can break down so figure out how you can get to your destination on time if something happens. Maybe plan to arrive one day earlier than necessary so you have a cushion if something goes wrong.
